On April 20, 2018, a stakeholder consultation was launched by Oeko-Institut on seven substances which are assessed in order to review and amend the RoHS Annex II list of restricted substances as part of the RoHS project “Pack 15”.

On April 20, 2018, the first stakeholder consultation was launched in response to the first part of the RoHS project “Study on the review of the list of restricted substances and to assess a new exemption request under RoHS 2 – Pack 15” prepared by Oeko-Institut and Fraunhofer IZM in February 2018.

The first part of the study is titled Substance Review and aims to update the existing methodology to identify and assess substances for possible restrictions, and the substance inventory, and concurrently assess a quantity of substances for future possible restriction. The study should provide technical and scientific support in view of three tasks, the information for which is planned to be collected through surveys, direct consultation and three stakeholder consultations.

This first stakeholder consultation is intended to collect information on seven substances which are pre-determined by the Commission to be assessed in task 2 for the purpose of the review and amendment of the RoHS Annex II list of restricted substances. The consultation lasts eight weeks from April 20 to June 15, 2018. The seven substances and their common uses in electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) are summarized in Table 1.

Interested parties are encouraged to participate in this consultation for a better basis of fact-based evidence. The second and the third consultations are around the corner and planned to be launched in May and in fall 2018 respectively.
